What You Need to Know About Lingual Braces

In our office, we offer patients the option of wearing lingual braces. This is a treatment option that is not well-known and only a few orthodontists offer it. It is much more difficult to place lingual braces and requires a great deal of expertise. Despite the difficulty and price, some people still prefer lingual braces.

What are lingual braces?

These are braces that secure to the back of the teeth instead of the front. That is why they are so much more difficult to place. Since the back of the teeth are not easy to see, an orthodontist has to be incredibly good at what they do and use the tools necessary to accurately secure them.

Initially, lingual braces will consist of metal brackets that bond to the back of each tooth, metal wires that thread between them and rubber bands to hold the wires in place. In this way, the methodology is similar to traditional metal braces. It is the placement that is different.

They take longer to place and a greater level of maintenance is required

Understandably, it takes longer for an orthodontist to place braces. They require great care and precision. Also, when making adjustments to the braces, it will take more time as well since it is more difficult to access them. Again, orthodontic offices will not offer this solution since of the additional time, experience and effort necessary to place and maintain them.

By offering this solution, we offer high-quality orthodontic services to meet the needs of our patients.

Benefits to lingual braces

Ultimately, the greatest benefit to this type of braces is that no one can see them. Since they are on the back of the teeth, it is impossible for someone to see the braces when eating or speaking. This allows patients to straighten their teeth discreetly and with confidence. Many adults prefer this option because of that fact. It is literally an invisible braces solution since it is impossible to see the back of the teeth.

This is an exciting option for anyone who wishes to straighten their teeth in a way that is entirely discreet and attractive. In fact, the improvements will be noticeable as they happen since nothing will be on the surface of the teeth.

Considerations

The benefit to this type of braces really lies in the fact that the treatment is invisible. It is possible to straighten teeth and align the bite without anyone noticing. However, because more time and effort is involved, it is a more costly solution so patients should be prepared accordingly.

We can go over the cost of this and other orthodontic options, like traditional braces or clear aligners, during a consultation. Then, patients can make a determination as to how they wish to proceed.
